Nerandra Modi praises India’s relationship with Russia while President Trump accuses India of a one-sided relationship

India’s Prime Minister Nerandra Modi was full of praise about India’s relationship with Russia after meeting with Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, China.

Nerandra Modi joined Vladimir Putin for a car-ride that lasted 45 minutes before the leaders led talks between their delegations. Pemier Modi said that the discussions revolved around  trade, fertilisers, space, security, and culture. He also highlighted that India’s relationship with Russia is the most important regional relationship for security.

On the other hand, Vladimir Putin said that Russia’s trade relationship with India was “showing positive momentum” and tourist exchanges are increasing. He also said that Russia and India “are coordinating together in the international stage”. Premier Modi reiterated that India and Russia always walked “should to shoulder”.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has accused Premier Modi of leading a one-sided trade relationship with the United States and said that India’s latest offer to reduce tariffs on US products was not enough. President Trump also said that India has been purchasing most of its weapons from Russia. President Trump pledged to initiate new US sanctions and tariffs on India for purchasing Russia oil, but India has refused to yield to President Trump’s pressure and will keep buying Russian oil.

US tariffs on India are currently at an effective 50% rate.
