Family members of Chantelle Chetcuti still calling for justice and a change of laws

Family members of Chantelle Chetcuti are still voicing their frustration and anger as a trial date for the murder case of Chantelle Chetcuti still needs to be issued. Chantelle Chetcuti was stabbed by the father of her two children at a bar in Zabbar in February 2020. The murder suspect, Justin Borg is out on bail and was even allowed to travel to Milan to watch a football game. Chantelle Chetcuti was 34 when she was murdered.

We were contacted by Chantelle Chetcutiโ€™s sister, Stacey Camilleri, who said that, more than five years after the murder, justice has already been denied and the family has been suffering ever since. Chantelleโ€™s mother has also passed away, missing the chance to see justice for her daughter. Stacey Camilleri is now calling on the government to amend the law to prevent delays in the justice system and ensure timely justice for murder victims.

Stacey Camilleri told us that her and the family’s reality is that they were made to suffer twice: first with the murder of her sister and then with failure of the justice system. She also posted a similar message on her social media account recently.

Over the years, a slew of criminal lawyers in politics have built a legal code which more of ten than not favours the rights of suspects over the rights of victims with delays in the justice system and a lack of effective prosecution being among the top issues which are causing miscarriages of justice. A notable case of miscarriage of justice is the case of Sion Grech in which his no one was found guilty of their murder.
