Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera is being touted for the post of Chief Justice

The current Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti is bound to retire in February of next year at the age of 68. The Labour government is trying to anticipate the vote for the Chief of Justice by pushing its candidates and it is starting its pitches with the most pro-Labour candidates possible.

The Labour government won’t successfully be able to appoint Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera as Chief Justice because the appointment needs a two-thirds majority vote in parliament. Labour however will be trying to leverage its most preferred candidate for the position of Chief Justice.

Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera is the Josรฉ Herrera’s sister, a previous Labour MP and Minister for Culture and Local Councils.
