Malta’s Archbishop says the world is currently run by people who are out of their mind: lists the three main enemies of the Maltese of today

In his Victory Day homily, Archbishop Charles Scicluna identified what he sees as the three main enemies facing Malta today: greed, youth substance abuse (including alcohol), and the country’s low birth rate. The Archbishop said that despite the world today being run by people who are out of their mind, Malta’s threats are internal and not external.

Malta has a very low birth-rate, and it has the lowest birth-rate in the EU with just 1.06 births in 2023 – with many of these births being by non-Maltese speaking citizens. The Maltese and the Maltese language face the ironic equivalent scenario of a Mediterranean Dodo. The Archbishop is experiencing this phenomenon first-hand in his own institution as his clerics and followers are being increasingly replaced by non-Maltese speaking foreigners.
