On Wednesday at around 10 p.m., police were alerted to a serious traffic accident on Mdina Road, Ħaż-Żebbuġ.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the collision involved an e-kick scooter, driven by a 15-year-old boy from Qormi, and an Opel Astra car, driven by a 26-year-old man from Luqa.
A 16-year-old passenger, also from Qormi, was riding on the back of the scooter. He sustained severe injuries and was given first aid on site by a medical team before being rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. Doctors later certified that he was suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers, the 15-year-old scooter rider and the 26-year-old car driver, escaped unharmed.
An inquiry into the case has been launched, led by Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia, who appointed several experts to assist. Police investigations are ongoing.
