Yesterday, Russia announced that it has concluded its military drills with the military of Belarus called “Zapad-2025”. According to the Russian government, Up to 100,000 Russian troops with up to 10,000 vehicles participated in the drills with the units planned to withdraw back to Russia. According to Ukrainian intelligence only up to 2,000 Russian military personnel participated in the drills with the rest of 8,000 troops being members of the Belarusian armed forces.
Russia is currently concentrating most of its forces in Ukraine for an impending and concentrated push at the direction of Pokrovsk in Donetsk.
India was an unlikely participant in the drills with up to 65 military officers: 57 from the army, 7 from the air force and one from the navy. US military officials also attended the drills and met with Russian and Belarusian military officials in what seemed a very unusual gesture.
Poland has closed the Belarusian border on September 9th as the military exercises in Belarus were about to start. Soon after, Poland experienced an incursion by Russian drones. The Polish border with Belarus has not been opened yet despite requests from China, and there seems to be no plan for its reopening. While the drills were taking place in Belarus, Russia also launched a drone to Romania which was escorted back to Ukraine.
