The South End Core (SEC) has expressed concerns over the ticket pricing for Malta’s upcoming home match against the Netherlands, following the publication of ticket details by the Malta Football Association (MFA).
In a statement, SEC confirmed that it had sought clarifications from the MFA about the prices, which have been set at €40, €75, and €100, depending on the seating category.
The MFA, in response, outlined a series of initiatives aimed at easing access and making the match more affordable for different groups of supporters. These include:
-
The distribution of 125 free tickets through an ongoing competition.
-
Concessions for under-12s and over-60s, priced at 50% less than the standard ticket price.
-
A 50% discount on tickets for the subsequent game against Bosnia, available to those who purchase a ticket for the Netherlands match.
-
Special €5 tickets for nursery children.
-
An allocation for member clubs and associations to buy up to ten tickets each at a 50% discounted rate.
-
Additional free tickets distributed through the MFA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to enable vulnerable groups to attend.
While welcoming these measures, SEC said it remains concerned about the overall pricing, which it believes remains too high for many local supporters.
“SEC understands that inflation has inevitably affected costs,” the group said in its statement. “However, we strongly believe in a fairer pricing strategy that ensures accessibility for all.”
The supporter group also called for the reintroduction of schemes like the ‘Goal Card,’ which previously rewarded the most loyal fans who regularly attended national team matches.
“Going forward, such schemes are essential to recognise and reward loyalty, while strengthening the bond between the national team and its supporters,” SEC added.
Malta’s clash with the Netherlands is one of the standout fixtures on the national team’s calendar, and the debate over ticket pricing is likely to continue in the lead-up to the match.
