Staff at HSBC Malta suspend strike: talks ongoing

Staff at HSBC Malta have suspended their strike today as talks take place between the bank’s management and trade unions, namely the Malta Union of Banking Employees and the General Workers’ Union. The MUBE however, has stated that the bank has yet to present meaningful proposals and the strike will resume if the bank doesn’t offer a reasonable solution. .

The ongoing dispute is about compensation for workers before the bank is sold to Credia Bank. Last week HSBC staff went on a work-to-rule strike avoiding communications and the banking digital system. The MUBE has warned that the strike will resume if
