HSBC Malta strike back on

The Malta Union of Banking Employees has reinstated its directive for HSBC Malta workers to resume their strike. The MUBE previously suspended the strike when negotiations began but the union is now saying that the proposal it received is “unworkable” and unacceptable.

Workers are being told by the union not to log into their banking systems, avoid meetings and official communication.

HSBC workers also had a meeting with Credia Bank’s CEO Eleni Virtou earlier this week and staff from HSBC international are also in contact with the local bank executives. Staff who are avoiding the strike to keep the bankโ€™s operations running are also being offered bonuses of up to โ‚ฌ5,000.
