Unconfirmed press reports are stating that the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan have breached the Libyan border and clashed with Khalifa Haftar’s “Subul Al-Islam” militia. Dozens have been reportedly killed and the RSF fled with a trove of Libyan equipment and also trucks.
Earlier this year, Khalifa Haftar, the rump dictator of eastern Libya, allied himself with the genocidal and UAE-backed RSF to fight the Sudanese Army and take control over Sudanese border checkpoints in the Libyan border triangle. Khalifa Haftar is also an UAE ally. Khalifa Haftar handed the RSF, control of the Sudanese side of the border after Haftar’s forces defeated the Sudanese Army in the area.
That the RSF would now turn on their new ally is not surprising. The RSF have a long and consistent reputation of being barbaric. genocidal and outright criminal. Most of the fighters also have a very low education and many of them are illiterate. Khalifa Haftar expressed surprise by the attack and described the RSF as “unreliable”. He also sent new reinforcements to the area.
No reason has been provided for the attack but the RSF are also well known to steal and loot and they even sell their stolen items in neighbouring Chad.
