Syria issues arrest warrant against Bashar al-Assad over Daraa massacre

A Syrian Judge has issued an arrest warrant against Bashar al-Assad over the Daraa massacre of 2011. The news has been reported by the press of the Syrian state, SANA. The report also states that the arrest warrant will also be sent to Interpol.

The Siege of Daraa by the Bashar’s army was one of the first massacres perpetuated by his regime when protests started across Syria in 2011. The Syrian government sent its army led by the dictator’s brother, Maher, to Daraa on the 25th April 2011 to massacre protestors, prompting many Syrian army officials to defect and create their own separate units which eventually became to be known the Free Syrian Army. The Siege lasted until the 25th May with more than 220 Daraa citizens killed, many of them children. After the siege, Daraa remained a place where the Syrian army kept committing massacres.

Bashar al-Assad is currently living in Moscow.
