The Labour government’s policy on the environment: ODZ pools, killing birds and racing cars

Yesterday in Parliament, the Labour government made a spectacular display in disinformation and greed as Labour MPs shot down the Nationalist Party’s proposal to entrench constitutional provisions to protect Malta’s environment. They are proudly defending the right to hunting and to race cars instead of adopting constitutional provisions that would ensure the protection of the last remaining patches of environment that Malta has left.

If this is not insanity and wanton greed, I don’t know what it is. The only good thing about this saga is that most people in Malta can see through Labour’s disinformation and greed and Labour is going to pay a significant price for this at the ballot box. Cyrus Engerer is right on point in saying that Labour has now tarnished its legacy and will be remembered for destroying the environment with populist ticks.

    I remember when there was the referendum on spring hunting. The FKK and hunting associations swayed the vote in their favour by telling everyone that this will set a precedent and every single past time or hobby in Malta would be endangered. Of course I still voted against spring hunting but unfortunately the hunters won.

    Anyway, my point is this, that with the PN proposals no past time is endangered, only destructive ones. On the contrary the public wins because we will be entitled by right to an quiet and nice environment and not have to put up with hobbies of the minority.
