Alkagesta accused of trafficking Russian oil in Romania

A major Romanian media outlet ran a story about Alkagesta’s operations in Romania, making accusations similar to those it faces in Azerbaijan — namely, mixing Russian crude oil with other products. The story by RomaniaTV states that Alkagesta is being suspected of having mixed Russian oil with supply of product in its bunkering operations at the at the Port of Constanța after having obtained contracts from the Oil Terminal Constanța.

In August of this year, the OMV Petrobrazi refinery was forced to suspend operations after receiving crude oil contaminated with organic chlorides from Alkagesta — these chlorides being a clear marker of Russian oil. The Romanian press outlet also alleges that the fraudulent oil mix was then resold to Ukraine and other countries.

Alkagesta has also been accused of similar accusations in an operation it conducted in Albania.

Alkagesta, Malta’s largest oil bunkerer, is being investigated by multiple authorities including in Malta while its owner is under arrest in Azerbaijan.
