With the Nationalist Party’s latest proposal to entrench constitutional protections to the environment, the new Opposition Leader has positioned his party as the one that is foreword looking in its approach to politics in contrast with Labour that is stuck in a politics of the past.
What is very evident is that the Nationalist Party’s message is easily resonating with the youth, while the Labour Party’s message is mostly aimed at pensioners and its own crowd – effectively restricting itself to a defensive position. The Labour Party can’t properly conjure a proper and convincing rational for its opposition to the Nationalist Party’s proposals, so it is resorting to theatrical propaganda and excuses which only dig the Labour Party even deeper into its position of the party of the past. Meanwhile, the number of people that are concerned about the environment is increasing.
Labour’s discourse and politics are degenerating, and its image and public relations are deteriorating just as badly. This shows that the Prime Minister has completely lost the plot — evident in the imagery of his latest meeting and his absurd excuses for opposing the Nationalist Party’s amendments. Labour looks like a crash crash in motion as the Prime Minister rambles about “protecting the environment” and foreigners opening Court cases against Maltese feasts. to a half-empty room.
