Watch Labour Party MPs shoot themselves in the foot over the environment as they bring excuses over why they won’t support the Nationalist Party’s proposal to entrench constitutional protections to the environment and ecosystems. This is absolutely catastrophic for Labour and it reminds me when Labour introduced gay marriage and cornered PN MPs in a position which alienated the LGBT community.
To understand how significant this is, we only need to look back to the 2017 elections, when George Pullicino lost his parliamentary seat, as his constituency was dominated by Marlene Farrugia, mostly for over environmental issues. George Pullicino was the architect of PN’s rationalisation plans. Environmental NGOs had become alienated from the Nationalist Party because of the PN’s rationalisation plans, causing the party substantial electoral damage. Now, the PN is redirecting those losses onto Labour.
This marks the beginning of a major political shift that will leave lasting scars on Labour.
