UPDATED: Ethiopian man to be charged in court after major Qawra drug seizure

Update:

Police investigations linked to the drug trafficking case in Qawra have continued in recent hours. Further searches conducted at the suspect’s property led to the discovery of around 150 packets of a substance suspected to be cannabis, already prepared for trafficking, along with an additional amount of cash.

The 39-year-old Ethiopian national remains under arrest. Police confirmed that he is set to be arraigned in court on Wednesday morning, at around 9:45 a.m., before Magistrate Monica Vella.

Police investigations are ongoing.


Earlier:

Police efforts in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking have continued with the arrest of a 39-year-old man from Ethiopia.

Officers conducted a search at a shop in Triq il-Maskli, Qawra, where it was suspected that drug trafficking was taking place. During the operation, police discovered just under one and a half kilograms of a substance believed to be cannabis. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of around €15,000.

Investigators also seized more than €64,500 in cash believed to be connected to the alleged trafficking activity.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has been informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry.

The man is being held in custody and is expected to be charged in court in the coming days.
