MUBE expected to announce decision on HSBC Malta offer’s soon but deal is expected soon

The Malta Union of Banking Employees has informed its members that it is assessing HSBC Malta’s latest offer after suspending its strike last week. MUBE struck twice, with the last strike being opposed by some members who protested against the disproportionate claims by senior union leaders with regard to younger members.

A final agreement is expected to provide with many employees a bonus payment between €10,000 and €20,000 while also retaining their jobs. Credia Bank, which is in the process of acquiring HSBC Malta, has also been involved in the discussions.

Operations at HSBC Malta are expected as normal from banking hours tomorrow.
