Update:
The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights confirmed that the event linked to Circo Orfei was found to include illegal animal circus performances. Following an on-site inspection, the Animal Welfare Directorate revoked the event’s permit – originally issued for an equestrian dressage and equine arts show – on Saturday, 11th October.
The Ministry clarified that no authorisation had ever been granted to Circo Orfei for animal performances, which are prohibited under Maltese law. Enforcement actions are currently underway.

According to Vuċi għall-Annimali, Circo Orfei has had its permits in Malta suspended by the Animal Welfare Directorate.
It is unclear what permits, if any, were granted in advance, given that animal circuses in Malta are clearly illegal.
We will be verifying more details during the day.
The circus was taking place at the Montekristo Estates, owned by Charles Polidano.
