President Trump demands Ukraine to capitulate (again): President Zelensky to attend Budapest meeting

Following an extended lunch with President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, President Donald Trump reiterated his demand for Ukraine to capitulate to Russia and give up its lost territories. President Zelenksy was consistent in his demand for a ceasefire and noted that it was Russia that has consistently refused a ceasefire. President Zelensky also said that security guarantees by the United States are the most important factor for a peace with Russia.

Meanwhile, President Zelensky insisted on his request to acquire Tomahawk missiles and offered Ukraine’s drone technologyย  in exchange. President Trump said that he liked the trade-off but reiterated that the US also needs its stocks due to preoccupations that the US is not stocked up enough in case of a war.

President Trump said that he will be trying to end this war but eventually repeated the same request for Ukraine to capitulate.

President Trump is to fly to Budapest to meet with Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky has also accepted to attend the meeting but it is unclear if he will be meeting with President Putin directly.

During a press conference following the lunch, President Zelensky did not disclose details about his discussions with President Trump and said that they decided to keep their conversation secret until further details are announced.

A European Commission spokesperson said earlier today that the Commission welcomes the meeting between Putin and President Trump in Hungary, despite Putin being the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.
