Manolita Camilleri resigns as party delegate due to disagreements over the party’s direction

Manolita Camilleri was another Labour Party activist who resigned this month before the Annual General Conference took place. The other Labour Party activist to have resigned was Jennifer Tabone. Manolita Camilleri was a party delegate and resigned from her post of the Żejtun local committee.

Labour Party President Alex Sciberras has called on party dissidents to return and that the party still upholds its fundamental values.

Manolita Camilleri resigned due to disagreements on the party’s direction. Like Jennifer Tabone, she was also concerned about the government’s encroachment of the environment to appease the construction lobby but has also reserved her criticism within the party’s structures. Jennifer Tabone is a long-time Labour Party member who consistently spoke about environmental and planning issues.

The Labour Party is having a very difficult month as it tries to impose its proposed planning reforms which are being opposed by all of Malta’s environmental groups.
