UPDATED: British father and son who drowned at Ramla Bay named as Mohammad and Ayan Qadoos

Update:

A British father and son who drowned while on holiday in Gozo have been identified as Mohammad Qadoos, 37, and his 11-year-old son Ayan.

The pair got into difficulty while swimming off Ramla Bay on Monday afternoon. Ayan was pulled from the water and pronounced dead shortly after, while his father’s body was recovered two days later between San Blas and Ramla Bay.

The mother, who was on the beach with the couple’s two younger children, is being supported by relatives who have since flown to Malta.

The Meteorological Office had issued a strong wind warning on the day of the tragedy. Following the incident, an emergency doctor renewed calls for a year-round beach flag system and lifeguard presence, noting that Malta’s beaches remain busy even outside the summer season.

A magisterial inquiry is underway.
