Opening the European Parliament’s plenary session on 12th-13th November 2025, President Roberta Metsola led Members of the European Parliament in a solemn tribute to the victims of the 13th November 2015 Paris terrorist attacks.
President Metsola commemorated the 130 people who lost their lives and the more than 400 who were physically injured in the coordinated Islamist attacks that shook the French capital a decade ago. She also paid tribute to the countless others who continue to live with the emotional scars of that tragic night.
“We stand beside France, its people, and all those still living with this unimaginable pain and loss,” Metsola said, describing terrorism as “an attack against European values, and against peace and tolerance.”
The President underscored that Europe’s strength lies in its unity and resilience. “When faced with terror, solidarity triumphed over division. This is what it means to be European – and nothing can rob us of this humanity, not even fear,” she affirmed.
Reiterating the European Parliament’s steadfast commitment to combatting terrorism and radicalisation, Metsola vowed to continue protecting Europe’s citizens. She announced that she will represent the European Parliament in Paris on Thursday to participate in official memorial events marking the tenth anniversary of the attacks.
The 2015 Paris attacks remain one of the deadliest acts of terrorism in modern European history, leaving a lasting mark on France and the continent as a whole. Today’s commemoration stands as a reminder of Europe’s shared values of solidarity, peace, and resilience in the face of hate.
