The Labour Party-led Marsaskala local council has voted against resolutions proposed by the Nationalist Party Councilors demanding the publication of the Environmental and Archeological Impact Assessment about the ferry terminal which will be built in the town. The resolutions relate to planning applications PA/06645/25 and PA/06646/25
The new ferry terminal in Marsakala is being opposed by a group of residents, the Green Party-ADPD and Momentum after the government imposed the project without consultation. The Environmental Resources Authority still needs to publish its impact assessments. Transport Malta, which is implementing the project is currently also doing re-pavement works along Marsaskala’s inner coast.
The government’s plan to add a ferry terminal in Marsaskala is part of its ongoing infrastructural plans to add alternatives modes of transport to cars which are increasing on the Maltese roads at a rapid rate. Residents argue that the project will increase congestion in Marsaskala which is already over-developed apart from ruining a part of the bay.
