Transport Minister states that fast-ferry to Gozo carried 1.2 million passengers last year but Government doubles-down on Gozo Channel with two new ferries

The government seems to be dismissing the idea of a bridge to Gozo altogether as it doubles-down on its investment on the unsustainable and loss-making Gozo Channel company. The government will be adding two more ferries for Gozo Channel by 2029.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Chris Bonett has stated that the new fast ferry from Valletta to Gozo has carried up to 1.2 million passengers last year and the total number of increase in passengers in all ferries was up to 400,000 people. The Transport Minister pledged to keep increasing the ferry services across the islands to reduce traffic.

The fast ferry to Gozo is operated by Gozo Fast Ferry Ltd.

The Ministry of Transport is fast-tracking the construction of a new ferry terminal in Marsaskala but the project has been met with opposition by the residents.
