Ukraine to buy heavy weapons from France including 100 fighter jets

Ukraine will be purchasing heavy weapons including anti-air defence systems, missiles and up to 100 F4 Rafaele fighter jets from France by 2035. This is the second major fighter-jet purchase announced by Ukraine since it declared last month that it would purchase at least 100 Gripen aircraft from Sweden.

The purchase will improve Ukraine’s much needed air-capabilities in the war against Russia which currently controls the skies in Ukraine.

Ukraine currently exceeds all NATO countries combined in drone production but lacks enough fighting jets and air-defence systems to achieve air superiority. Discussing ongoing German re-armament plans, German Defence Minister ย Boris Pistorius said thatย  said that Germany doesn’t need to accumulate drones because drone technology every 3 to 6 months but Germany is focusing on the production capability of drones and other weaponry.

Ukraine previously attempted to purchase weapons, including Patriot missiles, from the United States. However, the US has restricted the sale of certain systems to NATO allies, including Patriot batteries, citing limited stock. Ukraine can freely buy US weapons from NATO countries.
