Maltese MEPs voted against the Gender Equality Strategy over abortion

Women’s rights activists in Malta are condemning Maltese MEPs for voting against the EU’s Gender Equality Strategy 2025. Peter Agius, David Casa, Alex Agius Saliba, Daniel Attard and even Thomas Bajada have voted against the strategy citing its paragraphs about the right to abortion for their vote.

The strategy includes a provision to introduce the safe practice of abortion as an EU fundamental right. This proposal was also submitted via a European-wide petition by women’s rights activists including in Malta.
