Five-Place Surge: Malta among biggest movers in FIFA World Rankings

The Malta Menโ€™s National Team has climbed five places in the FIFA World Rankings, making them one of the biggest movers in the latest update.

The rankings, published on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, follow an exceptional international window for Malta. Now positioned 161st, Malta earned a remarkable 1โ€“0 victory away to Finland in Helsinki, and went on to push Poland all the way in Taโ€™ Qali, narrowly losing by a single goal.

Malta is one of several nations to rise five places, alongside Uzbekistan (now 50th), the Philippines (136th), and Turkmenistan (137th).

Despite remaining fifth from bottom among European countries, Malta has significantly reduced the gap to the teams just aheadโ€”Moldova (158th), Lithuania (146th), and Latvia (140th). At the same time, Malta has widened the margin over Andorra (172nd), Gibraltar (202nd), Liechtenstein (205th), and San Marino (210th).

The fixtures against Finland and Poland brought Maltaโ€™s FIFA World Cup European qualifying campaign to a close. Coach Emilio De Leoโ€™s squad will now shift focus to the crucial UEFA Nations League play-offs against Luxembourg in March 2026.
