The Labour Party has outdone the Nationalist Party’s tradition of being the party and for and of criminal lawyers. Charles Mercieca’s parade on ONE is not just a sign of the Labour Party’s bias in the murder case about Daphne Caruana Galizia, it’s also an inherent and overall bias towards the aggressors, criminals and violators.
Ultimately Charles Mercieca is not just the lawyer of the man accused of killing Daphne Caruana Galizia, he is also a lawyer that specialises in defending aggressors and violators.
The Labour Party is essentially replacing the rule-of-law with might-is-right policy. The normalisation of organised crime in politics, rampant impunity and chaos in development and construction and a brazen and public disregard towards corruption has replaced the rule-of-law with rule by the powerful, and it doesn’t sound hyperbolic at all that Labour is degenerating into fascism.
What is even more alarming is that since Chris Fearne’s withdrawal from the cabinet, there are no longer any voices in the party that are promoting a different kind of politics. This political development within Labour has also coincided with Joseph Muscat’s ongoing rehabilitation within the Party, once again pinning him as the most essential factor driving Labour deeper into the populist trenches.
