Exclusive: College Rector fired over extravagant spending: parents confirm better classrooms and school uplift

Sources at Saint Aloysius College have confirmed with The Maltese Herald that the first female Rector of Saint Aloysius College was fired over alleged extravagant and irregular spending. The new Rector, Maria Montebello also raised eyebrows by the administration after she used her role to promote a fashion brand (see image below).

Some of the purchases by the Rector made in her role include expensive plants in the corridors, Christmas decorations, a new personal kitchenette in her office, and a China tea set for her office.

However, some parents have commented and applauded the Rector for uplifting the condition and dilapidated state of the school. Parents described improved class-rooms and better hygiene in the school since her arrival.

St Aloysius College is one of Malta’s oldest Church schools, and is run by the Jesuit Order. Maria Montebello was the first lay and female rector of the college.
