Elia Muscat, 76, has been identified as the man who lost his life after a wall collapsed on him in Qormi.
The incident occurred at around 5.30pm in Triq Farsina, where Muscat was working in a garage alongside his 41-year-old son. While they were carrying out construction work, part of a wall gave way and collapsed on both of them.
Muscat died at the scene, while his son was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified as having suffered grievous injuries.
Members of the Civil Protection Department, police officers and a medical team rushed to the site to provide assistance.
The Building and Construction Authority and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority later confirmed that no construction works had been approved or granted clearance by either authority. Both entities will be assisting in the magisterial inquiry.

A 76 year old man lost his life after a wall collapsed on him in the Ta’ Farsina area of Qormi around 6 pm. Police and emergency services were called to the scene, but despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries.
A 41-year-old man who is reportedly the victim’s son was also injured in the collapse but is currently recovering at Mater Dei Hospital
There have been a number of structural collapses lately, such as the building in Birgu as well as a recent retaining wall collapse in the Mosta Valley caused by recent rains.
