A case of obstruction of justice? Prosecuting Police Office Daniel Zammit had links to murder suspect that goes to trial 18 years after the murder

Murder-suspect Stephen Caruana, who shot and killed the lover of his wife, Neville Baldacchino, is has gone on trial after 18 years after the act took place. Daphne Caruana Galizia had published an extensive investigation about the case revealing the conflicts of interests by the prosecuting police officer in the case. The then prosecuting police officer was Inspector Daniel ลปammit, son of previous Deputy-Police Commissioner Ray ลปammit.

Daniel Zammit, was in business with Joe Gaffarena โ€” Caruanaโ€™s father-in-law. Joe Gafferana is the father of the wife of Stephen Caruana, Romina Caruana.ย Daniel Zammit set up two companies with Joe Gaffarena while he was still investigating and prosecuting Caruana on the murder charge. Daphne Caruana Galizia identified two companies which were jointly owned by the ลปammits and Joe Gafferan and these were Geras Care Ltd and St Gabriel Residential Homes Ltd (with Joe Gaffarena’s son, Michael Gaffarena owning the shareholding for this company).

Daniel ลปammit was eventually forced to resign from the Police in 2015 but was never convicted of any charges. His father became Police Commissioner and was also forced to resign over the Paul Sheehan incident.
