Greece seeks national interests in the war against Russian oil

Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis, has issued a statement protesting against Ukraine’s drone attack against Greek oil tankers involved in the trafficking of Russian oil. One of the ships (Matilda, IMO: 9407457) has a Maltese-flag. Greek shippers remain major transporters of Russian oil and many of them use Malta as a maritime jurisdiction for their registrations and flags. You can read the full statement here.

Last week, Ukraine struck three Greek oil-tankers in the Black Sea that have been trafficking and transporting Russian oil. The ships are Matilda, Delta Supreme and Delta Harmony. More details here.

Greece is developing a security policy of its own along with Israel and Cyprus separate to collective EU and European interests. Greece and Cyprus have territorial disputes with Turkey, while Turkey has increasingly aligned with Europe in security interests over Russia.

Hurd’s Bank in Malta is also a security risk due to ongoing oil war and other factors.
