Minister of Finance says he has no problem publishing his decleration of assets

Interviewed briefly by the NET News, the Minister for finance Clyde Caruana brushed off concerns about his declaration of assets and said that he had no problem publishing his statement. The Minister for Finance was being questioned on why the Prime Minister is still refusing to publish the declaration of assets of his MPs – a practice he ended unilaterally.

Pressed with the question on who was preventing the publication of the statements the Finance Minister reiterated that he surely didn’t have a problem with their publication.

The Prime Minister blocked the publication of the declaration of assets of all MPs after several MPs including the Prime Minister himself were investigated over their statements. All of the investigations involved suspicion and risk of money-laundering while others involved the embezzlement of public funds.

The Prime Minister is battling calls to renew the practice to publish the declaration of assets.
