Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg held a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha on the enforcement of sanctions on Russia’s oil-tanker shadow fleet. Earlier this week, Minister Borg called for more coordination on the enforcement of sanctions on Russia’s Shadow Fleet via the new Global Centre for Maritime Sanctions Monitoring which Malta is hosting.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister is urging Malta to step up its coordination work in the Centre for increased enforcement of sanctions on Russia’s shadow-fleet. Minister Sybiha also discussed Ukraine’s current humanitarian crisis as many cities remain without electricity whilst being under Russian bombardment. The Ukrainian Minister also thanked Malta for its solidarity.
