France seizes Russian oil shadow-fleet tanker off the coast of Morocco

Yesterday, the French seized a Russian oil shadow-fleet tanker off the coast of Morocco in the Alboran Sea (western Mediterranean Sea). The operation was also supported by the UK with HMS Dagger. the ship seized is callrd The Grinch (IMO 9288851) and it had a flag from Comorros.

This is the first time that France went on the high seas to confiscate a Russian oil-tanker. The move also follows US seizures of Russian shadow-oil tankers. Previously, France confiscated an oil tanker travelling outside its coast which had been used in drone attacks against Denmark.

In a statement, President Emmanuel Macron said that France will not tolerate any violation and that international law should be upheld.
