Prime Minister says President of the Republic does not want to be involved in Chief Justice discussions

In comments he gave to the press following discussions with President Myriam Spiteri Debono, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the President does not want to be involved in the discussions on Parliament’s nomination for Chief Justice. Earlier today, Opposition Leader Alex Borg said that he wants the President of the Republic to be involved in discussions between him and the Prime Minister over the the Chief Justice and the Auditor-General nominations.

Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the President told him that these discussions are under the full discretion of the Members of Parliament.

Opposition Leader Alex Borg accused the Prime Minister of making false allegations about the details that were discussed during the discussions between them.

The discussions between the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition will continue tomorrow.
