A 39-year-old man from Birkirkara has been arrested following investigations into an attempted robbery at a shop in the same locality.
The attempted theft took place on 30 January at around 10.00am, when a man entered a shop in Triq il-Wied and allegedly threatened an employee with a knife. The employee managed to defend himself, and the suspect fled the scene without stealing anything.
Following investigations, police identified the alleged suspect and arrested him on Monday.
On Tuesday, the man was arraigned under arrest before Magistrate Ingrid Bianco. He was charged with attempted theft and holding a person against their will, among other charges.
He pleaded guilty to the charges. Sentencing is expected to be delivered on 20th February.
