According to the latest NSO statistics a record total of 929,645 outbound tourists that spent 6.9 million nights outside, left Malta in 2025, coinciding with a record year of inbound tourists in the same year. The figure for 2024 was 843,902 tourists with 5.7 million nights, and for 2023, 814,005 visitors amounting to 5.6 million nights. The previous highest figure was in 2019 with 706,797 outbound tourists with 4.6 million nights.
The most visited destination for the Maltese remains Italy but the largest share of the expenditure went to India which includes the share by third-country nationals. A total of โฌ952 million was spent by outbound tourists abroad. Hotels are making a comeback with Maltese tourists with more nights being spent in them following an increased preference to private rentals.
