ADPD – Green Party Leader Sandra Gauci wants Local Councils to have a say in planning permits and outdoor notices by establishments on chairs and tables

Yesterday during a discussion on the public broadcaster, ADPD- Green Party Leader Sandra Gauci stated that local councils should have a say in planning applications. She also added that establishments which receive permission to set up tables and chairs outside in the public space, should have their permits for their chairs and tables fixed outside where it can be seen.

The Green Party Leader Sandra Gauci has consistently protested against the government’s widespread allowance of catering to establishments to appropriate public spaces for chairs and tables. Sandra Gauci also says that local councils can adjudicate permits better because they are more aware of the needs and challenges of the residents.

The growing appropriation of public spaces by catering establishments is also being strongly opposed by civil society, with several incidents highlighting this debate, such as the obstruction of ambulance access in Valletta by chairs and tables placed outside.
