Body recovered at sea near Fomm ir-Riħ as police launch investigation

Police have opened an investigation following the discovery of a body at sea in the area of Fomm ir-Riħ. The body was spotted on Wednesday at around 3:30pm, prompting an immediate response by authorities.

Officers from the Malta Police Force went to the scene shortly after the report was received. With the assistance of a patrol boat from the Armed Forces of Malta, the body was retrieved from the sea and transported to Il-Marfa.

At this stage, the body has not been identified, as it was found in an advanced state of decomposition, according to police sources.

Duty Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia has been informed of the case and has appointed several experts to assist in an inquiry. An autopsy is expected to be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the discovery remain ongoing.
