Pakistan has declared open-war on Afghanistan following a series of cross-border confrontations between the two nations. Pakistan declared retaliation and conducted airstrikes on a number of Taliban positions across the border and also Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul.
Pakistan is accusing the Taliban of harbouring Pakistan’s Taliban faction inside Afghan territory. Pakistan also accused the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of launching attacks against Pakistan from Afghanistan. The Taliban has since denied harboring the Pakistani militants and have since condemned the retaliatory strikes on Kabul. They have since vowed to retaliate themselves.
Afghanistan is currently governed by the Taliban. The Islamist group rose to power in 2021 following an American pullout from the nation.ย They are known for their hardline interpretation of Islamic laws and for curtailing liberties and rights of women.
Up to 200 Afghans were killed in the Pakistani strikes. Pakistani officials are claiming that up to 80 fighters have died in these attacks, with no formal confirmation yet.
