Making a mockery of the diplomatic service

Last week, the voluntary religious order “The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem” shared a photo of some of its members together during the annual gathering of the diplomatic for the address by the President Republic.  The individuals in the photo include Clifford Galea and Omar Seguna who used to regularly contribute to Labour’s propaganda in the pro-Labour rags.

Members of the diplomatic corps should not be members of any organisation or “frattellanzi” because they owe their loyalty to the state and this also applies to top officials of the government, state or civil-service. Yet, we have supposed diplomats who are patting each other’s back for being members of the same club and even bragging about it. It’s not a flex that you are in one of these “orders”, organisations or clubs, or whatever you want to call them, but rather a sign of desperation to be seen with a “prestigious order”. It’s not dignifying to the diplomatic service and even makes a mockery out of it.
