President of the Republic meets with Pontiff in Rome

The President of the Republic, Myriam Spiteri Debono, has met with the Pontiff in Rome, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Ian Borg. The President said she had an in-depth discussion with Pope Leo XIV, who showed interest in understanding how the Maltese people think and view current global developments.

She added that the Pope, like herself, expressed concern about the ongoing wars and conflicts around the world and the humanitarian suffering they are causing.

During the visit, the President presented the Pope with an image-relief of Saint Paul by Maltese artist Chris Ebejer. The Presidency also donated up to โ‚ฌ10,000 to charity, which was used to purchase an ESG machine.
