Birkirkara and Naxxar progress to FA Trophy semi finals

Birkirkara produced a performance defined by resilience and heart, overturning a one-goal deficit despite playing for over an hour with ten men to defeat ลปabbar St Patrick 2-1.
The Stripes started the encounter with high energy. Just ten minutes in, Kemar Reid nearly broke the deadlock when he connected with a pinpoint Manuel Morello cross, but his effort was brilliantly parried by Ignacio Colombo. ลปabbar grew into the game and responded in the 29th minute, forcing Birkirkara goalkeeper Martinez into action to save a stinging drive from Vinicius De Paiva.
The complexion of the match changed dramatically in the 34th minute. Following a Football Support Review for an off-the-ball incident involving Stephan Makoma, the referee brandished a straight red card, leaving Birkirkara to navigate the remainder of the contest a man down.
ลปabbar wasted little time exploiting their numerical advantage after the interval. In the 52nd minute, Vinicius De Paiva caught Martinez off guard with a thumping strike that flew into the net, putting the underdog side ahead.
Rather than folding, Birkirkara dug deep. Their persistence paid off ten minutes later when Lucas Macula threaded a pass to Kemar Reid; the Malta international striker made no mistake, firing home to restore parity.
With momentum firmly on their side, Birkirkara completed the turnaround in the 68th minute. Geoffrey Acheampongโ€™s curling free-kick was parried by Colombo, but Macula was the sharpest to react, smashing the rebound into the net to make it 2-1.
ลปabbar threw caution to the wind in the closing stages as they searched for a late equalizer to force extra time. However, Martinez stood tall to deny Mario Fontanellaโ€™s final effort, sealing a courageous victory for the Stripes.

Naxxar see off resilient Zurrieq to book Gzira semi final

Naxxar Lions booked their place in the Meridianbet FA Trophy semi-finals on Wednesday night, though they were forced to dig deep to overcome a resilient ลปurrieq side 2-1 after extra-time.
The Lions appeared set to dominate early on, breaking the deadlock after just seven minutes.ย Viniciusย showcased his pace by sprinting clear of the defense before unleashing a powerful strike that left goalkeeper Jurgen Borg with no chance. Naxxar continued to mount pressure throughout the first half, nearly doubling their lead in the 28th minute when Vitinhoโ€™s fierce drive was acrobatically saved by Borg.
The missed opportunities began to loom large in the second half. Shortly after the restart, Gabriel Costa had a golden chance to extend the lead, but his header sailed over the crossbar. Naxxarโ€™s inability to clinicaly finish allowed ลปurrieq back into the contest. In the 74th minute, a defensive lapse following a cross saw the ball fall toย Wyatt Jon Harding, whose deflected effort found the back of the net to level the score.
Naxxar almost snatched a winner in the dying moments of regulation time, but Borg was once again the hero for ลปurrieq, tipping Daniel Letherbyโ€™s long-range effort around the post to force the match into an additional thirty minutes.
The Lions maintained their offensive intensity in extra-time. They were inches away from scoring in the 94th minute when Joao Pedro saw his header crash off the woodwork. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 114th minute; Vinicius Ferreira was fouled inside the penalty area, andย Vitinhoย stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick.
With this hard-fought victory, Naxxar Lions advance to a highly anticipated semi-final clash againstย Gลผira United.
