A Syrian man has finally been deported following his finishing of a prison sentence related to a homicide committed in Selmun, Mellieħa in 2007. The unnamed man who is currently 43 years of age admitted to the killing in 2010 after committing another homicide and damage to the victim’s vehicle. The man had been in Malta since 2003.
After his sentence, he was kept in a detention service whilst officials prepared his deportation.
The Minister for H0me Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri said in a statement that it is clear that if foreigners break Maltese law, they are immediately scheduled to be deported from the country following a prison sentence.
Camilleri further said in his statement that, ‘our society will always verify that criminals are a blight on Maltese security and peace – and are to be immediately removed from Malta after their sentence.’
