Euro area GDP increases by 1.4% in 2025: Malta with the second largest GDP growth rate following Ireland

According to the latest Eurostat statistics, the Euro area economy grew by 1.4% in 2025, with Malta recording the second-highest GDP growth rate among EU member states with 4%, following IReland with 12.3%. The European Union’s overall GDP increased by 1.5% in 2025, continuing a moderate recovery after growth of 1.1% in 2024. Cyprus recorded the third-largest increase at 3.8%.

At the opposite end of the ranking, Germany and Finland recorded the lowest GDP growth rates in the EU in 2025, both expanding by just 0.2%, while Hungary registered growth of 0.4%, making them the weakest performers among member states.

Economic growth across the EU remained broadly positive despite global economic uncertainty and weaker external demand. All EU member states registered some level of economic expansion during the year.

Employment in the euro area continued to rise, with the number of people in work increasing by 0.7% in 2025.
