Yesterday in the Persian Gulf, Israel struck the Iranian and Qatari jointly-owned South Pars gas field off the coast of Qatar. Key infrastructure including petrochemical sites were destroyed in the attack.
Israel is targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure during its war against Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps have responded to the latest attack by declaring that they will start hitting all energy facilities in the Gulf indiscriminately. These attacks on energy infrastructure will further compound a precarious energy situation during the ongoing Battle of the Strait of Hormuz. Oil and gas prices are soaring as a result.
A container-ship was spotted on fire yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz while Iran also launched missiles at Gulf States including the UAE.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said that Israel and the US made a mistake to start this war and it is unlikely they will eventually get what they are demanding.
French President Emmanuel Macron is calling for a moratorium on attacks against energy infrastructure.
