Chris Said is lying thorough his teeth but don’t take my word for it. Read his own words which are deeply contradictory as he tries to avoid any connection to his brothers who paid the family of a young girl to keep her silent after having raped her. The payment was brokered by another relative of Chris Said, Catholic Priest Michael Said (confirmed that they are related).
The Said siblings are 14 in total.
Chris Said told Times of Malta that he got to know about the case of his brothers from the press. This is not what he said back in 2008 when the case was reported. An old MaltaToday article by David Darmanin reported that Chris Said informed Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi of the case before his brothers were arraigned in Court. This means that a press notice wasn’t even issued yet because the Police only issue the press notice of the arraignment after or when the arraignment is being made.
Obviously, Chris Said is lying to his teeth. He may be able to deceive those who don’t remember those times very well but I actually do and those were times when the Police ignored and regularly failed to take action on reports about violence against women. Government transparency was deeply lacking and there was also centralised control with deep influence by government Ministers. It is highly unlikely, that in those conditions, Chris Said, as a government Minister (he was a Junior Minister or Parliamentary Secretary with the OPM during that time) didn’t know about the case.
In fact he knew about the case well in advance of its Court sitting, and MaltaToday reported that Chris Said informed the Prime Minister about it in advance – obviously to avoid the embarrassment for himself. What makes it more scandalous is that, today, Chris Said is even defending his brothers and he does not deny that the victim’s family was paid a compensation sum.
