US President Donald Trump is expected to make a speech later on at 8 o’clock in the evening in Washington on the war in Iran. Yesterday, the US President said that the US will pull out from the Persian Gulf but will not be ensuring the safe-passage through the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump also said that negotiations with the Iranian regime were progressing well.
US President Donald Trump has also criticised NATO after Spain and Italy refused to allow US bases on their soil to be used for the war in Iran. President Trump said he should consider leaving NATO due to the lack of support from allies. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the Presidentโs criticism, adding that whether the US should remain in NATO is the Presidentโs prerogative. However, the Secretary of State had previously co-sponsored a bill in the Senate that bars the US President from unilaterally exiting NATO.
European countries have refused to join the war in Iran and have only committed their navies to police the Strait of Hormuz only if a ceasefire is signed.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government has once again denied that it is holding negotiations with the US government. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claims that the Strait of Hormuz is under its full control and won’t be re-opened with an order by an American President.
The IRGC has kept up its daily missile strikes against Israel, along with drone attacks in the Gulf region. The Houthis have also launched missiles at Israel from Yemen.
Oil is slumping downwards with the news that war in Iran will abate but the Strait of Hormuz still remains closed for many Western vessels.
