Malta records a €3 billion deficit in goods and €8 billion of surplus in services for 2025

According to the latest statistics of Malta’s national current accounts by the NSO, Malta has recorded a total surplus of €7.91 billion in services for 2025 and a total deficit of €3 billion in goods. The combined surplus total is of €4.87 billion.

The goods deficit has narrowed in 2025 compared to the previous year with the 2024 figure of the net deficit of goods coming at up to €3.48 billion. The surplus in services also increased with the 2024 figure of surplus being recorded at  €7.1 billion, netting a total surplus of €3.62 billion for 2024.

Services include tourism, financial services and also government activity.

The statistics serve as an indicator of economic and financial flows and activity but they are not necessarily a sign of the state of the economy. However, a growing surplus is positive and indicates increased wealth in the economy.

  1. You need to expand the financial services sector and indicate how much is derived from online gambling. When you do that how much of this remains in the country and how much goes back out. How much are workers earning from this money considering that so many earn very little.
